Local Burrito strives for sustainability in all aspects of our business. From purchasing local organic food, to participating in green energy solutions, we’re trying our best to help our community and our environment.
We're 100% Offset by Wind Energy!
The power infrastructure doesn’t allow us to track electrons from a particular source to our homes or businesses. Even though Green Energy is being produced, it simply goes into the grid, mixes with other electrons, and is delivered over the poles and wires.
By Local Burrito choosing to join with Arcadia Power, we now buy clean energy from wind farms to match our exact monthly usage. We ensure that an equal amount of energy that we consume is produced and put back into the grid for us from pollution-free renewable facilities.
By Local Burrito purchasing RECs (Renewable Energy Certificates), we are able to help renewable energy project owners with a revenue stream that supplements the revenue they secure from the sale of the project’s electricity. RECs provide additional revenues which improve renewable energy projects and help increase their competitiveness with fossil fuels.
We're a Green Power Partner with the EPA!
By purchasing our energy through renewable sources, Local Burrito qualifies as an EPA Green Power Partner, in accordance with their energy guidelines! Local Burrito supports the renewable energy economy!
The Green Power Partnership is a voluntary program that encourages organizations to use green power as a way to reduce the environmental impacts associated with conventional electricity use. The Partnership currently has more than 1,300 Partner organizations voluntarily using billions of kilowatt-hours of green power annually. – epa.gov
We Source Local, Organic, Non-GMO Foods!
Local Burrito strives to source as many ingredients as possible from local and sustainable food systems. We support the many farms, businesses, employees and organizations which make up the Iowa local food economy.
We source local and by doing so bring more money to the local food economy, whom must compete with conventional, large-scale subsidized agriculture. Sustainable food systems, when done properly, can increase biodiversity, build soil and conserve water better than conventional production.
By Local Burrito choosing to source ingredients which require less intensive agricultural practices, we believe we are helping the soils, rivers, forests and streams of Iowa be a more beautiful place, whiling bringing healthier options to those whom demand fresh, local, food.
